OGDEN, Utah (January 2, 2019) -- Four teams remain unbeaten after the first weekend of conference play. Montana, Montana State, Northern Colorado, and Idaho began to seperate themselves from the rest of the pack after week one of the conference schedule.
- After the first weekend of Big Sky play there are four teams that remain unbeaten. Montana, Montana
- State, Northern Colorado, and Idaho all are still perfect in conference play.
- Idaho's Mikayla Ferenz leads the conference in scoring after the first weekend of conference play. Ferenz is averaging 27.5 points per game in conference play and 22.5 points on the season.
- Ferenz was named the Big Sky Ready Nutrition Player of the Week for the second time this season. She
- previously won the award back on November 27.
- Kennedy Nicholas from Sacramento State is currently the league's leading rebounder with 12.7 boards this season. She is currently third in conference play with 12 rebounds per game.
EASTERN WASHINGTON
- The Eagles went 1-1 in the opening week of Big Sky Conference play with a 64-58 victory over Weber State and were defeated 63-48 by Idaho State.
- Violet Kapri Morrow scored 34 points in two games and had a 21-point performance against Idaho State.
- Morrow is ranked fifth in scoring in the conference this season.
IDAHO
- Remained perfect in conference play after knocking off Idaho State and Weber State in the opening weekend of conference play.
- Mikayla Ferenz earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors for the second time this season for her performance in this week's games.
- Ferenz leads the conference in scoring and averaged 27.5 points per game this past weekend. In the Vandal's match up against Idaho State, Ferenz scored 29 points.
IDAHO STATE?
- Idaho State split their two games on opening weekend to begin conference play 1-1.
- The Bengals rank third in the conference in scoring defense and allow 64.4 points a game. Idaho State held Eastern Washington to 48-points in their lone victory over the weekend.
- Idaho State hits the road for a pair of conference games this weekend against Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
MONTANA
- Was one of four teams to remain unbeaten this season after picking up a pair of victories against Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.
- Montana will travel to take on Sacramento State and Portland State this week.
- Currently ranks at the top of the conference with a 44.2 percent field goal shooting percentage.
- McKenzie Johnston leads the Grizzlies on offense with 11.9 points per game, while Jace Henderson leads the team on defense with 7.4 rebounds per game.
MONTANA STATE
- Won their two conference games this week against Southern Utah and Northern Arizona and averaged 74.5 points in conference play.
- Montana State hits the road to take on Portland State and Sacramento State this week.
- Claire Lundberg is averaging 20 points for Montana State in conference play and is tied for seventh in scoring.
NORTHERN ARIZONA?
- Northern Arizona began conference play 0-2 after losses to Montana and Montana State to begin conference play.
- Kaleigh Paplow and Lauren Orndoff are tied for 12th in the conference in scoring with an average of 15.5 points during conference play.
NORTHERN COLORADO
- ?Northern Colorado won both of their games this week against Sacramento State and Portland State.
- Savannah Smith leads the Bears with a 20 point average in conference play. Smith had a week high of 25 points against Sacramento State.
- Ali Meyer sits atop the leader board with 13.5 rebounds per game. Meyer had a high of 15 rebounds against Portland State.
PORTLAND STATE
- Portland State played in a just one game this week in their Big Sky opener. The Vikings were defeated by Northern Colorado 79-63.
- The Vikings had three players scoring in double figures with Ashley Bolston and Desirae Hansen each netting 14 points. Jordan Stotler recorded 12 points in the loss.
- Portland State currently leads the conference in scoring margin and is outscoring their opponents by an average of 15.6 points per game this season.
SACRAMENTO STATE
- Suffered an 82-69 loss at Northern Colorado in their only Big Sky game of the weekend.
- Against the Bears, the Hornets had three players score in double figures. Kennedy Nicholas, Hannah Friend, Gabi Bade all hit the double digit mark in the game with Friend leading the team with 21 points.
- Nicholas recorded a double-double in the game with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Nine of her rebounds came on the defensive glass.
SOUTHERN UTAH
- The Thunderbirds went 0-2 to start conference play after suffering defeats at Montana and at Montana State.
- Southern Utah will host Idaho State and Weber State this weekend.
- Harley Hansen is active on defense for Southern Utah and leads the team in steals this season with 30. Hansen is currently third in the conference in total steals and steals per game. She is averaging 2.73 steals per game this season.
WEBER STATE
- ?Despite going 0-2 to begin conference play, the Wildcats made their opponents work for a victory. The Wildcats lost both games by six points or less this past week.
- Weber State hits the road in conference play this week to take on Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.
- Weber State's Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman is third in the conference this season in assists and is averaging 5.4 assists per game.
