Weber State and Southern Utah Move On to the #BigSkyTennis Semifinals

Weber State 4, Eastern Washington 3

Phoenix, Ariz. - Weber State won a 4-3 thriller over Eastern Washington after being down 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the #BigSkyTennis Championship.

The two teams split the top two doubles spots as the doubles point was decided on the third court. Stephanie Broussard and Rachel Swindell won 7-3 at No. 3 doubles to earn the point for the Eagles.

Five of the six singles matches went to a third set with Valentina Sottile’s 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles for Eastern Washington being the only straight set win. Faye Worrall followed up with a three set win at No. 4 singles to push EWU’s lead to 3-0.

Weber State came roaring back with Sara Parker putting the first point for the Wildcats on the the board with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Pei_Hsuan Kuo also came firing back to win 6-1, 6-3 after narrowly dropping the first set. Caitlin Herb tied the match with a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 win at the second position and Morgan Dickason finished the comeback winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 spot.

This is Weber State’s 11th win on the season and they will face No. 1 Northern Arizona on Friday, April 27 at 8:00a.m. PT in the semifinals. The winner will earn the first spot in the championship match.
 
Southern Utah 4, Idaho State 2

Phoenix, Ariz. - Southern Utah avenged its regular season loss to Idaho State winning 4-2 to move on to the #BigSkyTennis semifinals.

Idaho State won a hard fought doubles point with wins at the No. 2 position from the Botes sisters and the No. 3 spot with Madison Fenske and Melissa Coburn taking their match.

Ghita Nassik made quick work at No. 1 singles winning 6-1, 6-3 to even the match for the Thunderbirds. Charity Sagiao won 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4 position and Eira Tobrand took a three set victory at the No. 2 spot to push Southern Utah’s lead to 3-1. After Angela Walker’s 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles, Zoe Tanti clinched the match for the Thunderbirds winning 7-5, 3-6, 7-6.

Southern Utah picked up its 14th win on the year and will face No. 2 Idaho in the semifinals tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. PT. Follow the live stats by visiting our championships page on bigskyconf.com.
