2018 Indoor Track & Field Year In Review
  • Northern Arizona’s men recorded the Big Sky’s best team finish (15th) at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships since 1993 when Montana State also placed 15th in the country that year.
  • Northern Arizona’s women recorded the Big Sky’s best team finish (T37th) at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships since 2007 when Montana State’s women finished 17th in the nation during that campaign.
  • Northern Arizona’s Andy Trouard became the Big Sky’s first NCAA Individual champion since NAU’s David McNeill (5,000m) in 2010. Trouard won the 3,000m with a time of 8:04.94 and ranks third all-time in Big Sky history in that event with the 7:48.21 time he ran at the Iowa State Classic on February 9, 2018.   
  • Southern Utah’s men also placed as a team at the NCAA Championships, tallying 9 points for a 26th-place finish.
  • SUU’s Kasey Knevelbaard and Mike Tate each earned First Team All-American honors. Knevelbaard placed fifth in the mile (4:00.57) and Tate crossed the line fourth in the men’s 5,000m (14:15.67). Knevelbaard was also a Big Sky champion in the mile, while Tate won the Big Sky’s 3,000-meter race.
  • Northern Arizona completed the Big Sky title sweep for the 10th time in school history and second-straight year. NAU’s men won the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championship for the 20th time, while the women won their 12th conference title. The Lumberjack men finished with 137.50 points and the women concluded the meet with 150 points.
  • Southern Utah’s Tre James was named the Big Sky Men’s Outstanding Performer for his efforts in the 60m. He set a championship meet record by running a 6.62. Earlier in the season, James broke the Big Sky’s all-time record in the 60m with his 6.60 at the Lumberjack Team Challenge on January 19, 2018
  • Northern Arizona’s Brooke Andersen was named the Big Sky Women’s Outstanding Performer after she broke her own school and Big Sky record in the women’s weight throw with a toss of 22.25m (73-0). Andersen also placed 10th in the weight throw and earned Second Team All-American accolades at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
  • North Dakota’s Molli Detloff placed second in the women’s weight throw at the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships with a distance of 20.82m (68-3.75). That mark ranks second all-time in Big Sky history.
  • Sacramento State’s junior multi-eventer Emilia Del Hoyo scored a total of 22 points across four events to be tabbed the Big Sky Women’s Most Valuable Athlete at the Big Sky Championships.
  • Montana’s freshman Jansen Ziola won the pentathlon (3,643 points) and claimed Montana’s third-straight gold medal in that event.
  • Eastern Washington’s Alexis Rolan led all female freshmen in points scored at the Big Sky championships with 17. Rolan took the silver in both the 60m (7.45) dash and the 200m (24.18). Her time of 7.45 in the 60m ranks ninth all-time in Big Sky history. Rolan also placed eighth and snagged a point in the women’s triple jump 5.77m (18-11.25).
  • Idaho’s Kasin Pendergrass-Anderson scored a total of 13 points in two events to get the nod as the Big Sky Men’s Freshman of the Year. He snagged the silver in the men’s long jump, recording a leap of 7.37m (24-2.25). The fab freshman also placed fourth in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.02m (49-3.50).
  • Northern Arizona’s Jasmine Malone set two all-time Big Sky records by running a 52.39 in the 400m and a 23.75 in the 200m.
  • NAU’s Paige Gilchrist set a Big Sky Record in the 5,000m with a time of 15:45.76 at the Iowa State Classic on February 9, 2018. Gilchrist earned Second Team All-American Status after placing 15th in the 5,000m at the NCAA Championships.
  • Montana State’s Diego Leon earned second-team All-American honors with a 13th-place finish in the men’s mile at the NCAA Championships
  • Sacramento State’s Jah Strange, Mohamed Abdullah and Darius Armstead recorded a sweep for the Hornet men in the triple jump at the Big Sky indoor championships.
