Hausmann Named Big Sky Women’s Golfer of the Year, All-Conference Team Announced

OGDEN, Utah (April 19, 2018) – On the eve of the 2018 Big Sky Women’s Golf Championship, the league office announced the winners of the individual and all-conference awards.
 
Player of the Year honors were awarded to Idaho junior Sophie Hausmann. The Nottuln, Germany native led the league in all ranked categories via Golfstat and Golfweek, while earning a pair of Big Sky Player of the Week honors. Hausmann was also named to the All-Big Sky First Team for the third consecutive year.
 
Northern Arizona’s Sofia Anokhina was recognized with her second straight All-Big Sky First Team honor and third all-conference honor overall. The junior from Moscow, Russia was a solid leader for the Lumberjacks all season and ranked second in the conference in by Golfstat and Golfweek in the national rankings for the league.
 
A pair of sophomores for Sacramento State were selected to the All-Big Sky First Team. Sofie Babic, a native of Laholm, Sweden was a third team honoree a year ago, and picked up first team accolades in her second season. Teammate Nishtha Madan’s first team award is the first for the native of Gurgaon, India.
 
Portland State’s Tara Finigan led all players with three Big Sky Player of the Week awards, after winning a trio of tournaments this season. Finigan hails from Coto de Caza, Calif., and was named a First Team All-Big Sky selection, after receiving second team all-conference honors in 2017.
 
Freshman of the Year honors were awarded to Sacramento State’s Corinne Viden. The Kallered, Sweden native has been instrumental for the Hornets, who will be defending their team title this weekend. Viden was named to the All-Big Sky Second Team.
 
The Big Sky All-Conference teams and awards were selected following the conclusion of the regular season, using a points system based on the Golfstat National Ranking, the Golfweek National Ranking and the adjusted score to par provided by Golfstat.
 
The five lowest point totals were named to the First Team, the next five lowest were named to the Second Team, the next five lowest were named to the Third Team and five more were named Honorable Mention. The player who posted the lowest score earned Player of the Year honors, while the freshman player who posted the lowest score earned the Freshman of the Year honors.
 
Second Team All-Conference honors went to Sacramento State’s Astha Mada, Sacramento State’s Julia Becker, Sacramento State’s Corinne Viden, Southern Utah’s Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong, and Idaho’s Valeria Patino.
 
Third Team All-Conference honorees were Idaho’s Michelle Kim, Portland State’s Hannah Swanson, Portland State’s Valerie Hernandez, Weber State’s Kiselya Plewe, and Montana State’s Kelly Hooper.
 
Honorable mention accolades were awarded to Portland State’s Jasmine Cabajar, Montana State’s Jaylee Tait, Montana’s Hailey Hoagland, Northern Colorado’s Morgan Sahm, and Northern Arizona’s Kaitlyn Saum.
 
Sacramento State led all schools with five honorees, followed by Portland State with four and Idaho with three.
 
The 2018 Big Sky Women’s Golf Championships, hosted by Idaho, tee off on Friday, April 20. For the third straight season, the tournament will be played at the par-72 Boulder Creek Golf Club, utilizing the Desert Hawk and Coyote Run nines at the par-72 facility.
 
The 2018 Jeff Smith Big Sky Women’s Golf Coach of the Year award will be granted after the completion of the conference championships.
