OGDEN, Utah (March 30, 2018) - Cal State Northridge alumni Edniesha Curry became the only female DI men’s college basketball assistant in the country with the recently formed coaching staff of first-year coach Richard Barron at Maine.
Prior to her recent promotion, Curry served at UMaine as an assistant player development coach for women’s basketball under Barron, spanning from 2015-2017.
Before joining the coaching ranks of men’s college basketball, Curry competed in women’s basketball at Cal State Northridge from 1998-2000. Cal State Northridge is a former member of the Big Sky Conference from 1996-2001. The two-time all-conference selection led the Matadors to a Big Sky regular season and tournament title in 1999 and was named the tournament MVP that year for her efforts. With the Big Sky championship in hand, Curry guided the 1999 Cal State Northridge squad to the programs first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
After three seasons at Cal State Northridge, Curry concluded her college career at Oregon and was selected in the third round of the 2002 WNBA draft by the Charlotte Sting. She enjoyed her professional career playing both in the WNBA and overseas.
Curry specialized in player development and served in various roles as a basketball coach with several foreign professional basketball teams before her hire at the University of Maine.
