CHICAGO, Ill. (November, 2018) – UC Davis’ Mason Moe is one of nine players that have been added to the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Watch List, announced today.

The Buchanan Award is presented to the national defensive player of the year in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Seven Big Sky alums have won the award with the last being Montana defensive end Tyrone Holmes in 2015.

Moe, a linebacker for the Aggies, is a dominant all-around force on the UC Davis defense. He has 48 tackles with 33 of them coming at solo stops. He also leads the Big Sky in tackles for loss (8.5) and sacks (15.5). A native of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Moe has three interceptions for a total of 61 yards, six pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble on the season. Moe and the Aggies sit in first place in the Big Sky with two games left in the regular season.

Current Big Sky players already on the watch list include the Montana linebacker duo of Josh Buss and Dante Olson.

The Buchanan Award, presented since 1995, has watch list updates during the season. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will select the winner following the regular season.

Also this season, STATS will present the Walter Payton Award (FCS offensive player of the year), Jerry Rice Award (FCS freshman player of the year), Eddie Robinson Award (FCS coach of the year) and Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
