Portland State opened the season for the Big Sky with an away game at BYU. The Vikings were led on defense by Davond Dade, who had four tackles with two for a loss and a forced fumble. Cal Poly trailed Colgate by 20 points heading into the fourth quarter, nearly completing a comeback.
