GDEN, Utah (May 11, 2017) –
The top two seeds advanced to the winner’s bracket second round at the 2017 Big Sky Conference Softball Championship presented by Red Lion Hotels®. No. 1 Weber State used a strong pitching performance to edge No. 4 Southern Utah 1-0 and No. 2 Montana topped No. 6 Idaho State 8-0 in six innings.
 
Weber State will face Montana at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the winner’s bracket. SUU will face Sacramento State in the first elimination game tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. while ISU will face North Dakota at 12 p.m. in the second elimination game.
 
Game Three – Weber State 1, Southern Utah 0
 
Weber State starter, Kirtlyn Bohling, pitched seven solid innings to lead the Wildcats to a 1-0 win in their opening game at the Big Sky tournament. Bohling gave up just three hits with two strikeouts and three walks against 27 batters.
 
Takesha Saltern scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the third on a SUU error that gave WSU a 1-0 lead.
 
SUU pitcher, Kirsten Hostetler had a strong game as well with just six hits and one unearned run in six innings of action.
 
Game Four -- Montana 8, Idaho State 0 (6 innings)
 
No. 2 seed Montana scored three runs in the bottom of the second and four in the bottom of the sixth to pick up a run-rule win over No. 6 Idaho State. Grizzlies starter, Michaela Hood, earned her 16th win of the season in six shutout innings with five strikeouts.
 
Alex Wardlow had a big night for UM with two runs scored and two hits. The Grizzlies hit when it counted and five Montana players each picked up a RBI. Delene Colburn was the hero for Montana with a RBI single that scored the eighth run of the game.
