OGDEN, Utah (March 20, 2017) - The Idaho Vandals are moving on in the WBI, after an impressive win over Big Sky rival Eastern Washington.
The Vandals downed the Eagles, 74-67, in WBI quarterfinal, as they advance to face off against Rice in the tournament's semifinals.
Idaho took a 19-11 lead after the first quarter, leading by as many as 14 in the early parts of the third quarter. However, the Eagles responded to take a one-point lead, 51-50, heading into the final period. Faced with a question of who would step up, it was the Vandals who made the move, outscoring Eastern Washington 24-16 in the final period.
The Vandals did their damage at the three-point line, making 10-of-24 attempts, compared to Eastern Washington's 5-of-17. Idaho also held an edge at the free throw line, making 12 shots compared to EWU's 8.
Idaho's Mikayla Ferenz led all scorers in the game, finishing with 33 points that included five three-point shots. Teammate Taylor Pierce also finished with 16 points.
Delaney Hodgins led Eastern Washington with 18 points.
The Vandals will face off against Rice on Thursday, with a gametime set for 7 p.m. CST.
