OGDEN, Utah (March 16, 2017) – The Eastern Washington Eagles have advanced to the second round of the WBI, after a comeback win over Texas State.
The Eagles earned a 66-62 overtime win over the Bobcats, outscoring Texas State 11-7 in overtime. Eastern Washington trailed 38-28 at halftime, before the Eagles went on a 21-10 run to take a 49-48 lead into the final period. Texas State led by as many 16 points midway through the second quarter.
A gutty performance by Ashli Payne led the Eagles to victory, as Payne finished with a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds. All-Big Sky player Delaney Hodgins finished with nine points.
The Eagles will host conference foe Idaho in the second round of the WBI, with the game scheduled for Monday, March 20 in Cheney.
South Dakota 78, North Dakota 55 – The North Dakota Fighting Hawks had their season end in the opening round of the WNIT, in a loss at South Dakota.
The Coyotes held an 18-9 lead after the first quarter, and a 36-21 lead at halftime. The Fighting Hawks shot just 32.2 percent for the game, while making 3-of-12 shots in the opening period.
Makailah Dyer led North Dakota with 11 points, while Leah Szabla finished with 10 points.
