NIVC Volleyball Tournament

Sacramento State's impressive season came to an end Tuesday evening as the Hornets were defeated by UC Irvine 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-10) in the first round of the NIVC Tournament. Sacramento State's season was highlighted by its 15-1 league record and regular-season title. Several individuals on the Sacramento State squad were honored this season, Including senior setter and 2017 Big Sky MVP Kennedy Kurtz. The setter was joined by outside hitters Shannon Boyle and Mikaela Nocetti on the all-conference first team. Kurtz ended her stellar career with 5,497 total assists, which ranks second all-time in Big Sky history. Additionally, Sacramento State head coach Ruben Volta was named this year's Coach of the Year.

        North Dakota Concludes Historic Season in 3-0 Loss to Minnesota at the 2017 NCAA Volleyball Tournament
 
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - North Dakota ended another memorable volleyball season in a three-set loss (25-20, 25-15, 25-21) to Minnesota on Friday evening. Junior Jordan Vail and sophomore Ashley Brueggeman led the Fighting Hawks in kills as Vail had nine while Brueggeman had eight. 

Senior middle blocker Faith Dooley ended her decorated career at North Dakota with four kills and seven blocks, including three solo blocks against the Gophers. Dooley has now locked in her all-time Big Sky record for total career blocks at 679. The native of Wheatland, N.D. also ranks second all-time in the conference for career block assists (560). Sydney Griffin, North Dakota's veteran setter finished her last match with 26 assists, ranking her 16th all-time in the Big Sky in total career assists with 4,230 assists over her four-year career. 

In all, North Dakota had an outstanding year. The Fighting Hawks set the school record for most wins in a season (30) and capped it all off by winning their second straight Big Sky Volleyball Championship.
