Cal Poly falls short in overtime to FBS Nevada

Trailing Nevada 24-10 entering the fourth quarter, the Cal Poly Mustangs could have easily played the "moral victory" card.

Instead, the Mustangs, led by quarterback Dano Graves, tied the game with 1:20 left in regulation, at 24-24. Cal Poly had an opportunity in overtime, but a Nevada touchdown handed the Mustangs a 30-27 overtime defeat in Reno.

Cal Poly shut out the Nevada Wolf Pack in the second half, scoring 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime- both of them Graves touchdown runs. 

Nevada scored two quick touchdowns to open the game, taking a 14-0 lead with 9:13 to go in the first quarter. Mustangs fullpack Joe Protheroe would put Cal Poly on the board, with a 28-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, but the Mustangs still trailed 21-7 at the end of the opening period.

The Wolf Pack hit a field goal with three seconds left in the first half, to take a 24-10 lead into halftime.

Cal Poly outperformed the Wolf Pack, gaining 445 yards of offense to Nevada's 363. Graves finished with 140 rushing yards, and two touchdowns.
