OGDEN, Utah (September 12, 2016) - It isn't often a bench player comes in and win national awards, but there was nothing normal about Northern Colorado quarterback Kyle Sloter's performance in week two.
The transfer quarterback threw for 408 yards and six touchdowns in a 55-52 road win over Abilene Christian, while also rushing for another, as Sloter earned STATS National Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Replacing an injured Jacob Knipp in the first quarter, Sloter completed 25-of-32 passes in the game. He also rushed for 41 yards, and scored a 22-yard rushing touchdown.
For the second consecutive week, the Big Sky Conference captured the STATS national award. Eastern Washington receiver Cooper Kupp won the award in week one, while Sloter is the winner for the second week of the season.
Northern Colorado will play Colorado State Saturday, in the final non-conference game this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. MST on ROOT SPORTS Rocky Mountain.
