OGDEN, Utah (June 23, 2016) – Former Weber State University star, Joel Bolomboy was selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft.
Bolomboy becomes the 17
th Wildcat to be drafted to an NBA squad and is the first WSU player to be drafted since Damian Lillard was picked by the Portland Trailbalzers in the 2012 Draft. He is the first former Big Sky men’s basketball player to be drafted by the Jazz.
Bolomboy is the Big Sky’s all-time rebounding leader with 1,312 career boards. He is also ranked fourth in the Big Sky in blocks and fifth in field goal percentage. In his senior season at WSU he led the Wildcats to Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament championships, a trip to the NCAA tournament and earned conference MVP and Defensive Player of the Year accolades. He also earned NABC First Team All-District honors and was a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.
In the 2015-16 season, the Wildcat senior set a school single-season record with 415 rebounds and finished the season ranked third in the nation in rebounding. His 26 double-doubles last season ranks first in Weber State history. Bolomboy scored in double-figures in 31 of his 33 appearances last season.
This is the second straight year that a Big Sky Conference representative has been drafted. Last season Eastern Washington’s Tyler Harvey was a second-round pick by the Orlando Magic.
