Idaho State Moves On To #BigSkySB Championship Game

OGDEN, Utah (May 14, 2016) --
  No. 3 seed Idaho State moved on to the championship game of the 2016 Big Sky Conference Softball Championship presented by Red Lion® Hotels with a 7-4 victory over No. 2 seed Sacramento State.
 
Idaho State will face Weber State at approximately 1:30 p.m. Mountain in a must-win game.
 
Sacramento State’s Jessica Ravetti took advantage of a high fastball and knocked a RBI double to center field that brought home Sasha Margulies in the top of the first.
 
Idaho State put three runs on the board when Katelyn Marquez blasted a bases-clearing triple to left center. Reis Birkett’s two-RBI single in the top of the third extended the Bengals’ lead to 6-2.
 
Margulies blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the ISU lead but Bengals reliever, Ashlyn Ames was able to get out of a bases-loaded jam to end the inning with at 6-4 lead.
 
ISU added one more run in the top of the seventh and Ames was lights-out in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
 
ISU starter, Sophie Slagle picked up the win in 5.2 innings of action while Ames earned the save. Savanna Corr was tagged with the loss in five innings.
 
Kayla Papez went 2-for-3 at the plate for the the Hornets while Marguilies led the team with two runs scored.
 
ISU was led offensively by Kacie Burnett with two hits in three appearances with a RBI and a run. Marquez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
