OGDEN, Utah (May 12, 2016) – Alyson Kulp’s three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth gave No. 1 seed Weber State a 10-2 run-rule win over No. 4 seed Montana in the second round of the 2016 Big Sky Softball Championship presented by Red Lion® Hotels.
Kulp’s homer capped a 2-for-5 performance while McKinley Brinkerhoff went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with two RBIs.
Kirtlyn Bohling picked up the win in four innings of play while Maddy Stensby was tagged with the loss for UM.
Delene Colburn led the Grizzlies offensively with two hits in three at-bats.
Molly Horne got the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-run homerun to center field. Weber State added a run in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 4-0.
Sydney Stites answered in the top of the fourth with a lead-off homer to center.
Whitmer put two more on the board for WSU in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run blast to dead center. McKinley Brinkerhoff added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth with a RBI single that plated Rudi Barrios and increased WSU’s lead to 7-2. Kulp jacked her game-winner later in the inning to send WSU home with a win.
Weber State will face either Sacramento State or Idaho State on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Mountain while Montana will open tomorrow’s action against Portland State at 9:30 a.m.
