OGDEN, Utah (May 12, 2016) – Idaho State picked up its second win of the day with a 11-1 five-inning victory over No. 2 seed Sacramento State. in the second round of the 2016 Big Sky Softball Championship presented by Red Lion® Hotels.
Idaho State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. The Bengals widened the gap in the top of the fifth as they took advantage of a bases-loaded situation to score eight runs to put the run-rule in effect.
Katelyn Marquez had a big game for ISU, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. ISU posted nine hits as a team and took advantage of three Sacramento State errors.
Ashlyn Ames earned the win in five innings allowing just one run on seven hits. Celina Matthias gave up nine hits in the loss. Only four of the Bengals’ 11 runs were earned.
Idaho State will face No. 1 seed Weber State Friday at 2:30 p.m. Mountain while the Hornets take on Southern Utah at 12 p.m. in an elimination game.
Portland State and Montana get Friday’s action started at 9:30 a.m.
