OGDEN, Utah (April 21, 2016) - After the successful completion of the 2016 Big Sky Women's Golf Championships, presented by BEX Sunglasses, Wednesday, the Big Sky Conference announced the 2015-16 all-conference teams for women's golf on Thursday.
After a stellar season, Southern Utah golfer Taylor Viquelia was a unanimous selection for Big Sky Player of the Year. Idaho freshman Michelle Kim was also named the conference's Freshman of the Year.
Viquelia had the conference's lowest stroke average, and never finished lower than tenth place in a tournament. She also had a pair of runner-up finishes throughout the season. Viquelia, a junior from Hawaii, finished in a tie for fifth place in the Big Sky tourney, shooting rounds of 73-71-73.
Idaho's Michelle Kim, a freshman from British Columbia, had several top-ten finishes throughout the season, and entered the Big Sky tourney as the Vandals' top-seeded golfer. Kim shot rounds of 74-74-72 in the conference tournament, finishing in a tie for 13th place.
Both Viquelia and Kim were unanimous selections for the all-conference's first team. Other honorees included: 2016 Big Sky individual medalist Sophie Hausmann, of Idaho; Amanda Myers, Northern Colorado; and Krissy Peterson, Portland State.
The all-conference second team consisted of: Sofya Anokhina, Northern Arizona; Kaitlyn Saum, Northern Arizona; Kristin Strankman, Idaho; Cassie McKinley, Idaho; and Kala Keltz, Northern Colorado.
The honorable mentions included: Astha Madan, Sacramento State; Kendall Gray, Idaho; Morgan Messick, Northern Arizona; Kim Cifuentes, Northern Arizona; and Kaceelyn Pouttu, Weber State.
Big Sky champion Idaho led all league members with five all-conference selections, while Northern Arizona had four selections.
