Jones' Last-Second Shot Lifts Idaho State To Upset Win Over Bobcats

RENO, Nev. (March 9, 2016) – In the postseason, anything can happen.
 
Upsets, last-minute shots and the unbelievable and improbable can all happen, and they did in the final minutes of a Big Sky women’s quarterfinal between eighth-seeded Idaho State and Big Sky regular-season champion Montana State.
 
With seven seconds left, trailing 50-49, Idaho State’s Juliet Jones hit a three-point shot to give the Bengals a lead, and a 52-50 win over top-seed Montana State in Wednesday’s action at the 2016 Big Sky Women’s Basketball Championships.
 
Montana State led by as much as 11 late in the second quarter, and led by eight, 50-42, with 1:23 left in the final period. However, the Bengals went on a 10-0 run to close the game, starting on a three by Isabel Vara de Rey with 1:10 remaining.
 
The Bengals outscored the Bobcats, 20-11, in the final period, holding Montana State to 4-of-24 shooting (4-of-24) in the second half. The Bengals forced the Bobcats to commit 16 turnovers, with a final shooting percentage of 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from three-point range.
 
The game was a defensive battle, as Idaho State made 29.4 percent (20-of-68) of field goals.
 
Apiphany Woods led Idaho State with 11 points, while teammate Anna Policicchio finished with 17 rebounds.
 
The Bobcats were led by Peyton Ferris, who finished with 16 points. Jasmine Hommes and Alexa Dawkins finished with ten points.
