GRAND FORKS, N.D. (March 20, 2016) - Something about the postseason has the Weber State Wildcats playing their best basketball of the season.
The Wildcats, who fell in an overtime heart-breaker to Big Sky champion Idaho in the Big Sky tourney, have played with a vengeance in the WBI, looking to forget the buzzer-beater that ended their hopes at an NCAA berth.
Weber State opened the WBI with a win over New Mexico, and followed it up with a 76-74 win over league foe North Dakota in Sunday's second-round. The win over the Fighting Hawks means the Wildcats will advance to face USC-Upstate in the tournament's semi-finals on Wednesday.
North Dakota held a 35-31 halftime lead over the Wildcats, before Weber outscored the Fighting Hawks, 30-19, in the third quarter, taking a lead into the final period. Overall, Weber dominated the paint, outscoring North Dakota, 42-26. The Wildcats also scored 19 points off UND turnovers.
Weber State's Deeshyra Thomas led all scorers with 30 points, while teammate Kailie Quinn contributed 24 points.
Samantha Roscoe led North Dakota with 22 points, while Fallyn Freije finished with 14 points.
The Wildcats will host the semi-final matchup with USC-Upstate Wednesday, with a scheduled 7 p.m. tip at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
