Weber State Falls To Xavier In NCAA Tournament Action

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (March 18, 2016) –
Weber State’s season came to an end Friday evening as the No. 15 seeded Wildcats fell 71-53 to No. 2 seed Xavier in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

Senior Joel Bolomboy posted his 75th career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He will leave WSU as the program and conference’s all-time leading rebounder and the Weber State blocks leader.
 
Xavier led wire-to-wire and held WSU to just 27 percent from the field in the first half. Weber State cut the Musketeers lead to seven three times early in the second period including 56-49 with 8:10 to play. Xavier recovered, mounted an 8-0 run and never looked back.
 
Weber State ends the season with a 26-9 mark. This was the program’s 16th trip to the NCAA tournament and its second in the last three seasons.
 
Freshman McKay Cannon had a strong game for the Wildcats in his first NCAA tournament appearance. The guard finished with 10 points, five assists and four steals, while knocking down two 3-pointers.
 
Richaud Gittens had eight points off the bench for WSU while Zach Braxton and Jeremy Senglin each had seven points.
 
Xavier improved to 28-5 on the year and will face No. 7 seed Wisconsin in the second round on Sunday.
