Bernstine Sets New Big Sky Tournament Rebounding Record In UND Win Over Idaho State

RENO, Nev. (March 10, 2016) –
North Dakota sophomore Drick Bernstine set a new Big Sky tournament single-game record with 21 rebounds as the No. 5 seeded North Dakota Fighting Hawks topped No. 4 seed Idaho State 83-49 in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball tournament.
 
Bernstine finished the game with 14 points to go along with his 21 boards. In all, six Fighting Hawks scored in double-figures with Adam McDermott leading the way with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting, all of which occurred from 3-point range. UND’s 34-point win was the biggest margin of victory in Big Sky tournament history.
 
Ethan Telfair led Idaho State with 17 points while Geno Luzcando was the only other Bengal to reach double-figures with 10 points.
 
UND held ISU to just 17 points in the first half and held the Bengals to just 26.8 percent shooting on the day. The Fighting Hawks won the battle of the boards in commanding fashion with 55 rebounds to the Bengals’ 31.
 
UND moves on to Friday’s semifinals where they will face the No. 1 seeded Wildcats of Weber State. Tip-off is set for 5:35 p.m. Pacific.
