OGDEN, Utah (December 20, 2016) - In a scene that is expected to repeat itself multiple times over the coming weeks, Eastern Washington's Cooper Kupp and Gage Gubrud received national honors late Monday, for their performances from the past season.
First, the Walter Camp Football Foundation honored Kupp with a place on their annual All-America team, after the senior receiver caught 117 passes for 1,700 yards, which was good for sixth and fourth in FCS single-season history, respectively. Additionally, Kupp tied teammate Shaq Hill for the lead in receiving touchdowns, with 17 scoring catches.
Kupp is now a multiple-time All-American with the Walter Camp list, and added to his haul by being named the President's Award winner, from the Touchdown Club of Columbus (Ohio). Previous winners of the President's Award include former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones.
Gubrud was named the FCS Player of the Year, by the Touchdown Club of Columbus, after a record-breaking season. The sophomore threw for 5,160 yards, breaking the previous FCS record of 5,076 yards. Additionally, Gubrud threw 48 touchdown passes, while finishing with 5,766 yards of total offense.
On top of the Eastern Washington duo, North Dakota safety Cole Reyes earned All-America honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation, as the junior picks up yet another postseason honor, after earning #BigSkyFB Defensive Player of the Year.
