OGDEN, Utah (November 15, 2016) – The first week of the 2016-17 season is in the books. The Big Sky Conference proved why it’s known as a guards’ league with several backcourt players lighting up the scoreboards in the opening weekend.
Reigning Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year, Ethan Telfair, picked up a triple-double in the Bengals’ season opener at New Mexico on Friday. The senior scored 25 points to go along with 10 assists and 12 rebounds in the 81-70 loss. It was the first triple-double by a Big Sky student-athlete this season.
Southern Utah’s Randy Onwuasor scored 35 points in SUU’s loss to Valparaiso, shooting 11-of-22 from the field and 4-6 from the three-point line. He also led the team in assists with five. Onwuasor put up 30 points in SUU’s match up against St. Louis, shooting 9-12 from the free throw line and grabbed 13 rebounds.
MSU sophomore, Tyler Hall, scored 60 points in the Bobcats’ first two games on his way to a Player of the Week nod.
