OGDEN, Utah (October 15, 2016) – The Weber State Wildcats have been on a roll lately, and don’t plan on seeing that roll stop.
The Wildcats, on a three-game winning streak, entered a nationally-televised game against Montana State, trying to start conference 3-0 for the first time since 2008. Weber already had wins over UC Davis and Portland State, and matched up with the Bobcats’ top-rated scoring defense.
Thankfully for the Wildcats, Weber State quarterback Jadrian Clark was on-point from the beginning, throwing for 266 yards and four touchdowns, in a
45-27 Wildcats win.
The Wildcats scored touchdowns on their first five possessions, building a 35-14 lead at halftime. Weber was helped in the win by forcing four Montana State turnovers, with two of the turnovers leading to scores in the first half.
Clark completed 26-of-34 passes, with eight different receivers catching passes. Tui Satuala caught five passes for 73 yards, while Cam Livingston had 60 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The Wildcats are 3-0 in conference, and on a four-game winning streak, for the first time since the 2008 season, when Weber State won the league.
North Dakota 45, Southern Utah 23 – The Fighting Hawks powered to their first 4-0 start in conference play, as a member of the Big Sky.
North Dakota quarterback Keaton Studsrud completed 20-of-27 passes, for 282 yards and four touchdowns. The Fighting Hawks had 537 yards of offense, while forcing three Southern Utah turnovers.
Southern Utah held a 14-7 lead, early in the second quarter, until the Fighting Hawks went on a 21-3 run. UND featured a two-headed rushing attack, with both Brady Oliveira and John Santiago scoring touchdowns. North Dakota rushed for 255 yards.
Thunderbirds receiver Mike Sharp had 148 receiving yards, and a touchdown.
Northern Arizona 52, Idaho State 7 – The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks racked up 517 yards of offense, and forced four Idaho State turnovers, in a Homecoming win.
Lumberjacks quarterback Blake Kemp threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns, as NAU led 52-0 midway through the fourth quarter. Three different players saw snaps at quarterback for Northern Arizona.
Idaho State’s lone score came on a 57-yard connection between Tanner Gueller and Mitch Gueller, in the fourth quarter.
Cal Poly 55, Portland State 35 – The Cal Poly Mustangs rushed for 462 yards, in bad weather conditions in Portland.
Kyle Lewis rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns, as Lewis, Kori Garcia and Joe Protheroe all rushed for over 100 yards in the Mustangs’ win. Portland State held a 14-13 lead in the second quarter, after an Alex Kuresa touchdown run, before Cal Poly went on a 21-0 run to build a comfortable margin.
The Mustangs racked up 658 total yards, and dominated time-of-possession, with a time of 38:45. Cal Poly also put up 32 first downs, as the Mustangs move to 2-1 in Big Sky play.
UC Davis 34, Northern Colorado 21 – UC Davis running back Manusamoa Luuga had two touchdowns, as UC Davis scored 17 points in the second half to earn their first conference victory of the season.
The Aggies took the lead on Luuga’s first touchdown, and build a two-score lead on his second touchdown, which came early in the second quarter. Northern Colorado cut the score to 24-21 late in the third quarter, but Matt Blair’s 24-yard field goal reestablished momentum for the Aggies, who sealed the win on a pick-six by Isiah Olave.
Luuga rushed for 93 yards in the win, while Aggies quarterback Ben Scott completed 19-of-24 passes for 194 yards. The Aggies’ defense also limited UNC to 269 yards of offense, while forcing the game-winning turnover.
Northern Colorado’s Kyle Sloter threw for 166 yards and a touchdown.
Montana 68, Sacramento State 7 – The Montana Grizzlies continue to roll, putting up 655 yards of offense in a dominating home win over the Hornets.
Grizzlies quarterback Brady Gustafson threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns, as Montana attacked Sacramento State in a variety of ways. UM’s Jeremy Calhoun provided for Montana in a variety of ways, as he scored three touchdowns, both passing and rushing.
Montana used three quarterbacks in the win. The Grizzlies also provided a stout defense, forcing two Hornets turnovers.
