Wingender, Lloyd, Poertner Earn Weekly Soccer Honors

OGDEN, Utah (September 22, 2015) – The Big Sky Conference announced the offensive and defensive women’s soccer Players of the Week for the week ending September 21. Northern Arizona’s Hayley Wingender and Idaho’s Alyssa Lloyd picked up Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors while Idaho goalkeeper, Amanda Poertner picked up the Defensive Player of the Week award.
 
Poertner, a freshman from Fullerton, Calif., picked up her first ever Big Sky weekly honor after she allowed just one goal in Idaho’s 4-1 win over South Dakota on Friday. She followed that performance with a 100-minute clean sheet against Seattle on Sunday in Moscow, Idaho. The freshman pulled down seven saves against SU.
 
Lloyd, a junior from Colbert, Wash., scored a brace and earned an assist in the Vandal’s 4-1 rout of South Dakota on Friday. Lloyd’s header in the 42nd minute proved to be the game-winner as it gave UI a 2-1 lead. Loyd scored again in the 89th minute to put the score at 4-1. He assist came in the 54th minute as she found Elexis Schlossarek in the box for the finish.
 
Wingender picked up her second weekly honor of the season after scoring two goals and posting an assist over the weekend. In the Lumberjack’s thrilling 4-3 win over North Dakota State on Friday, the senior from Henderson, Nev. found Adrian Nixt in the 75th minute with a cross that Nixt blasted into the net to tie the game at 3-3.
 
Wingender scored the game-winner in the 84th minute on a rebound to give NAU its second straight win. The ‘Jacks picked up their third straight win on Sunday with a 6-1 win over Robert Morris. Wingender scored the game’s opening goal in the 19th minute as NAU rolled to the win.
