POCATELLO, Idaho (May 9, 2015) – Weber State blasted three home runs including a grand slam homer from freshman Molly Horne in a 13-1 win over Sacramento State to claim the school’s first Big Sky Conference softball championship. The Wildcats will represent the Big Sky in the 2015 NCAA Women’s College World Series.
Senior pitcher MaCauley Flint was named tournament MVP after leading the Wildcats to three wins in the Idaho Central Credit Union Big Sky Conference Championship. Flint allowed just one run in game six with four strikeouts and two walks.
Weber State scored three runs in the top of the first capped by a leadoff homer by Aly Kulp. Aubrey Whitmer blasted a two-run homer in the top of the second as part of a four-run performance.
WSU scored two more in the third, but it was in the fifth that Horne blasted a grand slam to cap the WSU win.
Caitlin Brooks was pegged with the loss in 1.1 innings of action. Brooks was named to the all-tournament team with two wins.
WSU will find out who they will face in the NCAA tournament on Sunday as ESPN-U broadcasts the Women’s College World Series selection show at 10 p.m. Eastern.
