Idaho Dominates Men's Golf All-Conference Team

OGDEN, Utah (May 4, 2015) - Big Sky Conference champion Idaho placed three student-athletes on the 2015 Big Sky Conference Men’s Golf All-Conference First Team, and also swept the individual awards.
 
Idaho sophomore Jared du Toit was named the Player of the Year and was a unanimous All-Conference First Team selection. Teammate Daniel Sutton was selected as the Freshman of the Year. Vandal senior Aaron Cockerill garnered First Team All-Conference honors and was also a unanimous selection.
 
The All-Conference Team and individual award winners were selected by the eight conference head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own golfers. The Big Sky Conference sponsored men’s golf in 2014-15 for the first time since 2001-02.
 
Du Toit, from Kimberley, B.C., captured medalist honors at last week’s Big Sky Conference Championship at the Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort in Angels Camp, Calif., with an 8-under-par 208. He fired a 6-under-par 66 in the final round. Du Toit ranks sixth in the nation in scoring average at 69.61 strokes per round. He is ranked 43rd in the Golfstat Cup Standings and 77th in the Golf Week Rankings.
 
Sutton, from Birmingham, England, tied for third at the Big Sky Championship with an even-par 216. Sutton played in nine tournaments and averaged 72.29 strokes per round.
 
Cockerill, from Stony Mountain, Manitoba, finished second at the Big Sky Championship with a 3-under-213. Cockerill ranks 229th in the Golfstat Cup Standings and is 261st in the Golf Week Rankings.
 
Cockerill, Sutton and du Toit led Idaho to its first Big Sky Conference Championship with an 8-under-par 856.
 
Sacramento State junior Taylor Knoll and Southern Utah senior Nic Booth rounded out the First Team.
 
Knoll, from El Dorado Hills, Calif., helped the Hornets to a second-place finish at the Big Sky Championship. Knoll tied for 11th at the championship. He finished in the top 10 in four regular-season tournaments, including a win at the Folino Invitational. Knoll averaged 72.5 strokes per round. He is ranked 392nd in the Golfweek Rankings.
 
Booth, a senior from West Jordan, Utah, placed eighth at the Big Sky Championship and helped the Thunderbirds to a third-place finish. Booth averaged 72.68 strokes per round. He was the medalist last fall at the Utah Invitational.
 
Idaho junior Rylee Iacolucci, Southern Utah freshman Fidel Concepcion, Hartford junior Evan Russell, Weber State junior Devon Purser and Sacramento State senior Luke Kristo garnered Second Team honors.
