Sacramento State and Eastern Washington both notched victories on the first full Saturday of the college football season.

Garrett Safron threw five touchdown passes as the Hornets beat Incarnate Word of the Southland Conference 49-13. 

Eastern Washington moved to 2-0 with a 41-9 win over NAIA  UM-Western.

Six Big Sky teams fell to FBS opponents.

No. 5 Montana led Wyoming at halftime, but fell to the Cowboys 17-12.  

Five turnovers cost Portland State a chance to upset Oregon State.  The Beavers beat the Vikings 14-13. Montana State lost at Arkansas State 37-10, while Southern Utah fell to Nevada 28-19.

Northern Arizona lost to San Diego State 38-7, and No. 11 Stanford beat UC Davis 45-0.

All 13 league teams are in action next Saturday.

Nevada 28, Southern Utah 19: Raysean Pringle rushed for 95 yards, including a 71-yard scoring run in the Thunderbirds' loss.

Nevada led 7-0 at the half, but scored two third quarter touchdowns to lead a 28-6 lead. 

SUU's Miles Killebew returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. SUU QB Aaron Cantu completed 21-of-30 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown.

Oregon State 29, Portland State 14: Paris Penn scored on runs of 56 and 11 yards in the first half to help Portland State take a 14-13 halftime lead against the Pac 12 Beavers.

Portland State committed four third-quarter turnovers and couldn't recover. Penn rushed for a career-high 112 yards.

Oregon State's Sean Mannion threw for 328 yards and a touchdown.

Stanford 45, UC Davis 0: No. 11 Stanford scored 38 first-half points and cruised to the win over the Aggies.

Stanford QB Kevin Hogan threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns.

UC Davis had 115 yards of total offense.


Wyoming 17, Montana 12: Two third-quarter touchdowns were enough as Wyoming held off Montana's upset big.

Montana took a 6-3 lead into intermission thanks to a 26-yard TD catch by Josh Janssen on a trick play.

Wyoming's Shaun Wicks scored on a 5-yard run and D.J. May scored on a 58-yard run as Wyoming took a 17-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Montana's Mke Ralston caught a 16-yard TD pass from Jordan Johnson in the fourth quarter. 

Montana's Zack Wagenmann had two sacks and seven tackles.

Arkansas State 37, Montana State 10: Fredi Knighten threw for 219 yards and rushed for 104 to lead Arkansas State to the win.

Montana State trailed 13-7 at the half, and cut the lead to 13-10 on a Luke Daly 34-yard field goal early in the third quarter. It was all ASU from there.

ASU finished with 558 yards of total offense compared to 228 for Montana State.

San Diego State 38, Northern Arizona 7: Donne Pumphrey rushed for 11 yards and two touchdowns as San Diego State beat the Lumberjacks.

Casey Jahn scored for Northern Arizona on a 1-yard run in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 24-7. Jahn had a team-high 62 rushing yards. 

Sacramento State 49, Incarnate Word 13: Garrett Safron completed 17-of-25 passes for 251 yards and five touchdowns as the Hornets cruised to the win over the Southland Conference team.

The 49 points were the most in an opener for the Hornets in their history. Nnamdi Agude had six catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns. DeAndre Carter, who set a school single-season record with 14 TD catches in 2013, added three catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns.

Darnell Sankey led the defense with 10 tackles and a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Eastern Washington 41, UM-Western 9: Walter Payton Award candidate Vernon Adams Jr. completed 27-of-30 passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns as the Eagles rolled.

Cory Mitchell caught 10 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Shaq Hill had 116 yards and a touchdown, while Kendrick Bourne caught two TD passes for the second straight week. EWU had 598 yards of total offense.

Eastern Washington starters Cooper Kupp and Quincy Forte did not play. Both are expected back for next Saturday's game at Washington.
