OGDEN, Utah (April 22, 2014) – With the final week of conference matches done, the Big Sky Tennis Championship is up next.  The Weber State men and the Montana women have earned the No. 1 seeds in this year’s tournament.
 
The Weber State men (10-0, 14-9) are the No. 1 seed on the men’s side.  The Wildcats will have a bye in the quarterfinal round and will meet the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals.  The No. 2 seed on the men’s side is Montana (9-1, 11-11).  UM will also have a bye in the quarterfinal round and meet the highest remaining seed in the semifinals.
 
The quarterfinal matchups on the men’s side are No. 3 Northern Arizona (7-3, 12-8) vs. No. 6 Northern Colorado (5-5, 7-8), and No. 4 Montana State (7-3, 11-7) vs. No. 5 Sacramento State (6-4, 9-15).  In the regular-season matchups, Northern Arizona defeated Northern Colorado, 6-1.  Montana State defeated Sacramento State, 4-3.  Both of the men’s quarterfinals will be on April 25, at 2 p.m. PST in Gold River, Calif.
 
The Montana women (9-0, 15-7) are the No. 1 seed on the women’s side.  The Grizzlies will have a bye in the quarterfinal round and will meet the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals.  The No. 2 seed on the women’s side is Northern Arizona (8-2, 9-15).  NAU will also have a bye in the quarterfinal round and will meet the highest remaining seed in the semifinals.
 
The quarterfinal matchups on the women’s side are No. 3 Sacramento State (7-3, 9-16) vs. No. 6 Northern Colorado (6-4, 9-9), and No. 4 Portland State (6-3, 9-6) vs. No. 5 Montana State (6-4, 9-10).  The Hornets are seeking to win their 13th straight Big Sky Championship.  Portland State is making its debut in the tennis championship.  In the regular-season matchups, Sacramento State defeated Northern Colorado, 7-0.  Montana State defeated Portland State, 7-0.  Both of the women’s quarterfinals will be on April 25, at 10 a.m. PST in Gold River, Calif.
 
The semifinals for both sides will be held on Saturday, April 26.  The women will start at 10 a.m. with the men following at 2 p.m.
 
The championship match is set for Sunday, April 27 at 10 a.m. for the women and 2 p.m. for the men.  These matches will feature the winner of both semifinal matches.  The winner of the Big Sky Conference tournament receives an automatic bid to play in the NCAA Tennis Championships.  Live scoring will be available for the championship matches.
 
The tournament will be held at the Gold River Racquet Club in Gold River, Calif.  If the weather is inclement, the matches will be moved to the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Gold River, Calif.
