Northern Arizona’s men and women won the 2014 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pocatello, Idaho, this past weekend.
NAU won the women’s team scores with 116 points. Weber State was second with 93 points and Montana was third with 91 points. Following UM is Sacramento State (4th, 72 points), Southern Utah (5th, 59), Portland State (6th, 57), Montana State (7th, 56), Eastern Washington (8th, 40), Idaho State (9th, 30), Northern Colorado (10th, 29) and North Dakota (11th, 19).
NAU men’s won with 130 points. Second place was Sacramento State with 89.5 points and Montana was third with 87 points. Following UM was Southern Utah (4th, 74.5), Weber State (5th, 56), Eastern Washington (5th, 56), Montana State (7th, 55), Portland State (8th, 39), Idaho State (9th, 36), North Dakota (10th, 20) and Northern Colorado (11th, 19).
Austin Emry of Montana won both the Most Valuable Athlete and Outstanding Performer. Emry scored 29 points for his team, and his heptathlon score was best for the Outstanding Performer.
Southern Utah’s Shaye Springall was named Most Valuable Athlete for scoring 31 points for her team. Montana’s Lindsey Hall was named Outstanding Performer for her performance in the pentathlon.
In the multi-events, UM’s Emry won the men’s heptathlon with a score of 5,568 points and in the women’s pentathlon Montana’s Lindsey Hall won with 3,969 points. Hall broke her own championship record of 3,928 and broke Montana State’s alum Erin Jones-Graf all-time record of 3,929 set in 2006.
Springall set a new Big Sky Championship and all-time record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.19. She broke Sakya Bolton of Sacramento State’s record of 8.40 set in 2012.
Southern Utah’s Kayla Kovar broke the championship recorded in the weight throw with a toss of 67-2 1/4. She broke the throw of 67-0 3/4 set in 1997 by Beth Burton of Cal State Northridge.
