Sacramento State women and Northern Arizona men won the 2013 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Portland State at Pacific University this past weekend.
This is the men’s third title this season and the women’s second. NAU won cross country and both indoor and outdoor track and field, while SAC won the indoor and outdoor track and field titles.
After the meet, SAC’s Paul Lyons and NAU’s Diego Estrada won the men’s Most Valuable Athlete, while Weber State’s Amber Henry won the women’s award.
For the Outstanding Performer, the men were won by SAC’s Jesse Elvrom, while Portland State’s Joenisha Vinson and Montana’s Lindsey Hall won the women’s award.
For the women’s teams scores, SAC scored 155 1/2 points, Portland State was second with 110 points, and Northern Arizona finished with 93 points.
Following NAU was Montana (4th, 75 points), Eastern Washington (5th, 74), Montana State (6th, 72), Idaho State (7th, 71 1/2), Weber State (8th, 55), Southern Utah (9th, 49), Northern Colorado (10th, 46) and Northern Dakota (11th, 18).
On the men’s side, Northern Arizona won with 143 points, Sacramento State finished second with 136, and Weber State was third with 125 points.
Following WSU was Eastern Washington (4th, 92 points), Montana State (5th, 76), Montana and Southern Utah (6th, 66), Idaho State (8th, 64), Portland State (9th, 21), Northern Colorado (10th, 15), and North Dakota (11th, 14).
Portland State Joenisha Vinson won the women’s heptathlon and Montana’s Austin Emry won the men’s decathlon as the multi-events concluded at the Big Sky Conference Championships in Forest Grove, Ore.
Vinson scored 5,488 points. She won the long jump, finished sixth in the javelin, and ninth in the 800 meters.
Southern Utah’s Shaye Maurer finished second with 5,209 points, and Idaho State’s Samantha Berryman was third with 4,878 points.
Emry won the 110-meter hurdlers, finished third in the discus, fourth in the pole vault and javelin, and finished ninth in the 1,500 meters.
Idaho State’s Harley Goedhart finished second in the decathlon with 6,885 points, and his teammate Justin Critser was third with 6,624 points.
