SUU's Heuir Wins Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah (Feb. 4, 2013) - Southern Utah’s Damon Heuir has been selected as the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week.

Heuir, a 6-foot-2 senior guard from Townsville, Queensland, Australia, averaged 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and four assists per game as he led the Thunderbirds to victories over Sacramento State and Northern Arizona.

Heuir scored 28 points with seven rebounds, seven assists and a steal in Southern Utah’s 79-67 win over Sacramento State on Thursday night. He scored 19 of his 28 in the second half as his team overcame a 13-point halftime deficit. Heuir made 13-of-14 shots from the free-throw line, and was 3-of-7 from 3-point range.

Heuir came back Saturday and scored 27 points in a 78-67 win over Northern Arizona, the Thunderbirds’ fourth straight victory. Heuir made 3-of-6 from 3-point range and was 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also had four rebounds, an assist and a steal. He scored 18 points in the first half as Southern Utah opened up a 40-32 lead.

Heuir now leads the Big Sky Conference in scoring with an average of 16.8 points per game. He has scored in double figures in 10 straight games. This is his second Player of the Week honor this season.
