Montana Closes in on Record

Montana continued its dominance of Big Sky Conference men’s basketball, winning its 23
rd straight regular-season game on Saturday night.
The Grizzlies improved to 12-0 in conference and won its 12
th straight game with a 65-46 win at Eastern Washington.
Montana is one victory away from tying the all-time record of 24 straight regular-season conference wins held by Weber State. The Grizzlies play their next two league games at home, where they haven’t lost to a Big Sky foe since the 2009-10 season. Including postseason games, Montana has won 25 in a row over league competition.
Also on Saturday, Weber State improved to 10-2 in conference with an 85-64 win over Northern Colorado. This marks the seventh straight season Weber State has won at least 10 conference games.
In other action, Southern Utah won its fourth straight, beating Northern Arizona 78-67. North Dakota hiked its league mark to 6-6 with a 69-52 victory over Idaho State. Montana State earned a split on its road trip, downing Portland State 70-64 at the Stott Center.
Northern Arizona and Sacramento State play Monday night in Sacramento at 7 p.m. Pacific.
Montana State 70, Portland State 64: Flavien Davis scored 22 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Bobcats moved to 7-5 in conference play.
Antonio Biglow scored 12 points with seven assists and three rebounds off the bench. Calen Coleman added 11 points in 22 minutes off the bench. The Bobcats shot .473 percent from the field.
Renado Parker scored 18 points with eight rebounds to lead PSU, which dropped to 3-9.
Montana 65, Eastern Washington 46: Will Cherry and Mathias Ward each scored 13 points to lead a balanced Montana attack in the win over the Eagles.
Mike Weisner made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points off the bench. Keron DeShields also added 11 off the bench.
Thomas Reuter was the only Eagle to score in double figures with 11 points. EWU played without true freshman center Venky Jois, who is nursing an ankle injury.
Weber State 85, Northern Colorado 64: Senior Scott Bamforth made four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to lead Weber State to the road win over Northern Colorado.
Bamforth was one of five Wildcats to score in double figures. Frank Otis scored 15, while Kyle Tresnak and Davion Berry each had 12. Gelaun Wheelright scored 10 off the bench. WSU shot 60.8 percent from the field and led by 20 at the break.
Paul Garnica and Emmanuel Addo led Northern Colorado with 11 points each.
Southern Utah 78, Northern Arizona 67: Senior Damon Heuir poured in 27 points to lead Southern Utah to its fourth straight win. Heuir was 9-of-19 from the floor, 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also had four rebounds.
Jackson Stevenett added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the win. SUU made 23-of-34 free throws. The Thunderbirds improved to 7-5 in conference play.
Max Jacobsen led Northern Arizona with 17 points and seven rebounds. The Lumberjacks dropped to 4-7 in conference play.
North Dakota 69, Idaho State 52: Troy Huff netted 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as North Dakota evened its league record to 6-6.
Aaron Anderson scored 16 points and dished out five assists in the win. North Dakota committed just five turnovers and had 17 assists.
Andre Hatchett scored a career-high 16 points and had six rebounds for Idaho State, which fell to 3-9 in conference play.
