Big Sky's "50 Greatest Male Athletes"

Eugene Greene won seven Big Sky Conference track and field championships, and was an NCAA champion in the triple jump.

Greene, who grew up in the Bahamas competed for Boise State from 1989-91, ranks 19th on the list of the Big Sky Conference’s “50 Greatest Men’s Athletes.’’

“Eugene was recruited out of the Bahamas with better that average marks in the triple jump,” said Ed Jacoby, Boise State’s former track and field coach.

His first Big Sky championship came in 1989 when he won the triple jump, and finished fifth in the long jump. He successfully defended his indoor title in the triple jump in 1990 and 1991. In 1990, he finished second in the long jump, an event he won in 1991..

After the 1990 championship, Greene was named Co-Outstanding Field Athlete and won the honor outright in 1991.

During the 1990 indoor season, Greene competed at his first NCAA Championship. He finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 52 feet, 8¾ inches . He went on to win the 1991 triple jump title at the NCAA Championship with a mark of 53-3 1/2.

“Once he arrived at BSU I knew we had something special,” said Jacoby. “Not only did Eugene become an NCAA Champion in the triple jump and several time Big Sky Champion, he excelled as a long jumper and became one of the fastest athletes we had on the team, and we did have some excellent sprinters.”

Greene still holds the Big Sky’s championship record in the triple jump with a mark of 54-5 1/2 set in 1990. He also ranks third all-time in the long jump with a mark of 25-10 3/4.


During the 1989 outdoor season, Greene won the triple jump and finished fifth in the long jump. He wasn’t able to defend his title in 1990 in the triple jump. He finished second in both the triple jump and long jump.

Charles Green of Northern Arizona won the triple jump that season with a mark of 52-9. Greene had a jump of 52-4. Glenn Carroll of NAU won the long jump that year with a jump of 25-2, Greene had a mark of 25-1 1/2.

During the 1991 season Greene got back on track as he won both the long jump and triple jump.


Greene only competed at one NCAA championships during the outdoor season. He finished fifth in 1990 in the triple jump with a mark of 53-2 1/4.

Greene ranks second all-time in the triple jump in the Big Sky with a mark of 55-5 1/4 and he is fourth all-time in the long jump with a jump of 25-10 3/4.

After Greene graduated he went back to the Bahamas. Jacoby believes he is in the investment business and raising a family.
