Southern Utah’s Brad Sorensen’s name is among the likes of Matt Barkley of USC, Landry Jones of Oklahoma, and A.J. McCarron of Alabama.

Sorensen was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List on Tuesday, the only Football Championship Subdivision quarterback among the 29 signal callers on the list. The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is awarded at the end of the season to the best senior quarterback in college football.

Southern Utah joined the Big Sky Conference on July 1. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound senior from Grand Terrace, Calif., enters his third season as the Thunderbirds’ starting quarterback after transferring from Brigham Young.

Sorensen is a candidate for the Walter Payton Award, given annually by The Sports Network to the top offensive player in the FCS. He was named to the Sports Network’s preseason All-America Team, and was also named the Big Sky preseason MVP.

In 2011, Sorensen completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,143 yards with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In two seasons at SUU, he has completed 549 passes for 6,306 yards with 38 touchdowns. He was named the 2011 Great West Conference Player of the Year.
