The Weber State men's basketball team has been ranked as the 39th best program in the last 50 years by ESPN.com.

ESPN Stats and Information department created a scoring formula to rank the programs over performance in the past 50 years (since the 1962-63 season). Points were awarded for conference titles, conference tournament titles, winning percentage, NCAA Tournament appearances and victories, and in other areas. The Wildcat program totaled 207 points in the formula to finish 39th.
Weber State has 20 Big Sky regular season titles, which ranks as the eighth most in the country in the past 50 years. The Wildcats have also made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances.
ESPN also ranked the top starting five players in the last 50 years:
G – Damian Lillard (2008-12)
G – Jermaine Boyette (2000-03)
F – Harold Arceneaux (1998-2000)
F – Bruce Collins (1976-80)
C – Willie Sojourner (1968-71)
Also listed were the top three players off the bench: Eddie Gill (1998-2000), Jimmy Degraffenried (1991-96) and Rico Washington (1987-89)
The top coach all-time was Phil Johnson (1968-71) who won three Big Sky titles in three seasons and led the Wildcats to three NCAA Tournament appearances and totaled a .810 winning percentage. Johnson later became a head coach in the NBA and was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 1975 with the Kansas City-Omaha Kings. He was later a long-time assistant with the Utah Jazz.

The 1962-63 season was Weber State's first year as a four-year and Division I institution. The 2012-13 season will mark the 50th anniversary of becoming a Division I school.
