ISU Wins Tournament Championship
Idaho State won the 2012 Big Sky Conference women’s basketball tournament and will earn the automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. The Bengals will learn their fate on Monday.
The all-tournament team was announced and Sacramento State Emily Christensen, Northern Colorado’s Victoria Timm and D’shara Strange, and Idaho State Lindsey Reed and Ashleigh Vella were all named to the team. ISU’s Chelsea Pickering was named tournament Most Valuable Player.
Picking and Vella led the way in points for the Bengals each having 12. Reed added 10 and Cydney Horton led on the boards with nine. NC was led by Victoria Timm, who had 18 points and was the only NC player who had scored double-digit points. Lauren Oosdyke added eight.
Northern Colorado will get the invite to the WNIT. They will learn who they play on Monday night.
This game came down to the end. ISU had the lead going into half but by only a point. What hurt ISU was its turnovers. It had 22 to NC’s 13. The Bengals shot 41 percent from the field to the Bears’ 29 percent.
The game was tied with 2:27 left before Vella had a layup. NC missed a layup and their was even more missed shots. The next score came with 21 second left by a couple of Pickering free throws.
NC was able to come within one with 13 second left with a 3-pointer by Victoria Timm but that wasn’t enough as a layup by Kaela Oakes gave ISU the win.
