Weber State became the first team to clinch a spot in the Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament thanks to a win over Northern Colorado on Saturday.
Weber State improved to 10-1 in conference with a 93-81 win over the Bears. Junior Damian Lillard, the nation's leading scorer, poured in 35 points and dished out five assists. Lillard scored 75 points in two games this week to hike his scoring average to 25.5 points per game. Lillard became the 12th player in Big Sky history to score 1,700 career points. He finished the night with 1,712 career points.
Lillard made 12-of-18 shots from the field, was 5-of-9 from 3-point range, and 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. Scott Bamforth scored 18 points with six rebounds and five assists for the Wildcats.
Tate Unruh led Northern Colorado with 17 points. The Bears dropped to 4-7 in conference.
The Wildcats have secured one of the six spots in the postseason tournament. The regular-season champion will host the semifinals and championship March 6-7.
Montana closed in on clinching a postseason spot and kept pace with Weber State for first place, downing rival Montana State 67-58 in Bozeman. The Grizzlies have won five straight to improve to 9-1 in conference. Montana can clinch a spot in the tournament with a win over Idaho State on Monday.
Sophomore Kareem Jamar led Montana with 21 points. Derek Selvig scored 15 points and hit a couple of key 3-pointers down the stretch. Jourdain Allou scored 15 points to lead the Bobcats. MSU made just 2-of-16 3-pointers. MSU dropped to 6-5 in conference.
Sacramento State earned its third straight win, picking up a 75-71 road win over Eastern Washington. Joe Eberhard scored 21 points with nine rebounds, and junior John Dickson netted 20 points for the Hornets, who led 40-21 at the half. Cliff Ederaine scored 15 points with 18 points and six assists for EWU. Cliff Colimon netted 25 in the loss. EWU dropped to 5-6 in league.
Portland State snapped a three-game losing streak with a 76-65 road win over Northern Arizona. Charles Odum scored 20 points to lead the Vikings. PSU shot 54.5 percent from the field. The Vikings snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 5-6 in league. Ephraim Ekanem led NAU with 14 points.
