WSU Women, NAU Men Win Championships
Final Results
The Weber State women and Northern Arizona men won the 2012 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz. The men’s team scores were a new meet record.
The men’s Most Valuable Athlete was Northern Arizona’s Diego Estrada, who scored 30 points for the meet. The women’s MVP was Sarah Callister of Weber State with 28 points.
The men’s Outstanding Performer was Montana State’s Asa Staven for his performance in the heptathlon, and the women’s Outstanding Performer goes to Keisha Monterola for her pole vault.
In team scores for the men, Northern Arizona recorded a new meet record with 215 points. Montana State was second with 122 points. Following MSU were Eastern Washington (88), Sacramento State (65), Weber State (45), Idaho State (44), Montana (42), Northern Colorado (30) and Portland State (8).
In women’s team scores, Weber State won the meet with 132 points, beating Sacramento State by just one point. Following SAC were Portland State (90), Northern Arizona (85), Montana (60), Idaho State (57), Montana State (56), Eastern Washington (45) and Northern Colorado (6).
Karene King of Portland State broke the all-time and championship record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.77. She broke Selena Frazier of ISU's championship record of 24.03 and broke the all-time record held by Joyce Rainwater with a time of 23.82.
Geronne Black of Portland State broke the Big Sky championship and all-time record in the 60 meters. Black held both of those record. The all-time record was 7.41 and the championship record was 7.43.
Sakya Bolton of Sacramento State broke the championship and all-time record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.40. She broke Micki Rogers of Cal State Northridge time of 8.44 and Alicia Truesdale's of SAC's all-time record of 8.44.
Asa Staven of Montana State broke the Big Sky all-time and championship record in the heptathlon with 5,731 points. He broke his own all-time record set this season and Idaho State's alum Sam Pierson's championship record of 5,456.
