PSU's Trubachik Finished with a Season High 7,320 Points in the Decathlon

Ogden, Utah - Portland State’s Nick Trubachik, a runner up last season, claimed the 2010 Big Sky Conference outdoor track and field Decathlon title, rolling up a season high 7,320 points. Idaho State’s Cassie Merkley was the women’s Heptathlon winner scoring 5,351 points, one point under her season best.
Trubachik won by 542 points. His teammate, Vince Kinney was second (6,848) followed by Sam Schur from Sacramento State (6,847), Kersee Lind from Eastern Washington (6,611), Evan Stokken from Montana (6,610).
Merkley held off Montana’s Lindsey Hall for the Heptathlon title, winning by 96 points. She finished ninth in the first meet of the second day, the Long Jump, but came back to win the javelin with a toss of 152-04.25, then placed 10th in the 800 meters.
Naima Goodwin from Sacramento State was third with 5,019 points, followed by Joenisha Vinson from Portland State (5,004) and Michaela North (4,911) from Weber State. North won the first event of the day with a leap of 18-11.50 in the Long Jump, the placed sixth in the Javelin and fifth in the 800 Meters. That is her career best total by 170 points and is the third best women’s outdoor Heptathlon is Weber State school history.
Friday’s events get underway with the Women’s Hammer Throw at 11:30 a.m. at the Hammer Throw area located directly south of the University Village Apartments on 46th street and Old Post Road. There is no charge for that event.
The women’s Long Jump finals and Men’s Javelin finals begin 2:00 inside the Chick Hislop Track & Field Complex @Stewart Stadium. The first track event is the Men’s 3,000 Meter Steeplechase at 3:00 p.m.
Cost is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for youth 17 and under. WSU students get in free with their ID card. All those coming to the event are asked to enter the SOUTHWEST GATE. In previous announcements, it was the NORTHWEST GATE but due to construction in that area, the gate has been moved.
