PSU's Trubachik and ISU's Merkley Lead After Day One

Ogden, Utah - Portland State’s Nick Trubachik and Idaho State’s Cassie Merkley are the first day leaders in the Decathlon and Heptathlon at the 2010 Weber State Credit Union / Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Trubachik tallied 3,869 first day points giving him a 297 point lead over teammate Vince Kinney with 3,572. Montana’s Dominic Giovannoni was third with 3,555.

Trubachik won the first four events of the day with victories in the 100 meters (11.44), Long Jump (22-09.25), Shot Put (44-09.75) and High Jump (6-08.75). He was fourth in the 400 Meters (51.49).  He came into the meet with a season best point total of 7,240 and needs 3,372 points on Thursday to surpass that total.

Merkley came into Wednesday’s Heptathlon with a 2010 Big Sky best of 5,352 points. She scored 3,282 first day points including a win in the Shot Put with a toss of 43-05.25.  She holds a slim 144 point lead over Montana’s Lindsey Hall who won the 100 Meter Hurdles (14.05) and High Jump (5-07.25).
