GREELEY, Colo. -- Northern Colorado senior Allison Raguse has added another honor to her already illustrious student-athlete career.
Raguse, a three-time Big Sky All-Conference selection and two-time Big Sky All-Academic team selection, has been awarded one of just 13 NCAA-sponsored Women’s Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarships for Careers in Athletics.
The NCAA annually awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. Recipients must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports administration or related program that will help them obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, such as athletics administrator, coach, athletic trainer or other career that provides a direct service to intercollegiate athletics.
All 26 of the scholarship winners have one year to use the one-time award of $6,000.
Raguse, who came to Northern Colorado after a standout career at Lincoln Lutheran in Lincoln, Neb., is the first Bears student-athlete to receive an NCAA postgraduate scholarship since football star Reed Doughty did in 2006.
In her four years in Greeley, Raguse was selected 11 times for her performance in the classroom and on the court, including an All-Conference First Team selection this year and second-team nods in 2007 and 2008 and a Big Sky Conference All-Academic team pick in 2008.
She also was honored as a Big Sky Conference Player of the Week three times.
She played in 110 matches in her time with the Bears and accumulated 964 kills, 105 assists, 69 service aces, 461 digs and 278 blocks. Those kills are the second most in Northern Colorado Division I history, and her blocks are the third most.
As a senior, Raguse helped Northern Colorado author one of the finest volleyball seasons in school history by registering 346 kills, 77 assists, 281 digs and 64 blocks.
