Weber State’s Damian Lillard and Idaho State’s Amorrow Morgan have been selected as the Co-Big Sky Conference men’s basketball players of the Week. Both guards led their teams to two home victories last weekend.
Lillard, a 6-foot-2, sophomore from Oakland, Calif., averaged 25.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, leading Weber State to home wins over Portland State and Eastern Washington as the Wildcats improved to 7-1 in Big Sky play.
Lillard exploded for a career-high 36 points on Saturday in the Wildcats’ 89-67 win over Eastern Washington. It was a single-game high in the conference this season. Lillard went 10-of-11 from the field, 6-of-7 from 3-point range, and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. He also had six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Lillard opened the week with 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds in an 86-83 win over Portland State on Friday.
For the week, Lillard shot .667 percent from the field, .571 from 3-point range, and .938 from the free-throw line. This is Lillard’s second Player of the Week honor this season.
Morgan, a 6-5 senior from Memphis, Tenn., averaged 24 points, four rebounds and three assists per game as the Bengals notched victories over Eastern Washington and Portland State. Morgan shot .667 percent from the field, .857 percent from 3-point range and .714 from the free-throw line. Idaho State entered the weekend 1-5 in conference and in dire need of victories to get back in the hunt for a postseason berth.
Morgan scored 18 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals on Friday in an 80-74 win over Eastern Washington. Morgan was 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Morgan netted 30 points in an 88-80 overtime win over Portland State on Saturday. Morgan was 11-of-16 from the field, 4-of-4 from 3-point range and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. He also added four rebounds and four assists. This is Morgan’s first Player of the Week honor this season and the fourth of his career.
