WBB Ranks Ninth in Division I Attendance
Big Sky women’s basketball drew 1,285 fans a game in 2008-09, which ranked ninth overall in the Division I conference rankings. As a league, the Big Sky recorded a total attendance of 160,640 in 125 games this year.
Montana led the league in home attendance and ranked 30th in the Division I team rankings. The Lady Griz attracted 68,864 fans in 18 games for an average of 3,826. Montana played Portland State in Missoula, Mont. for the conference’s regular season title on March 7, when a season-best 6,734 fans packed Dahlberg Arena.
The NCAA attendance reports were released on Tuesday, June 2. In 2008-09, NCAA women’s basketball attendance topped the 11 million mark for the third straight year. It also set a single-season record of 11,160,293. The previous best was 11,114,054 in 2008.
The Big 12 ranked first in Division I conference attendance for the 10th straight season with 1,073,069 overall fans and an average of 5,312 per game. The only other leagues to finish ahead of the Big Sky were the Big Ten, Southeastern, Atlantic Coast, Big East, Mountain West, Pacific 10, and Missouri Valley.
Tennessee led Division I in women’s basketball attendance for the sixth straight season. The Lady Vols drew 209,991 total fans and averaged 13,999 per contest at home.
