Northern Arizona’s Kaitlyn Saum has been selected as the Big Sky Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week after tying for third place at the Grand Canyon Spring Invitational.
Saum, a freshman from Mesa, Ariz., was originally slated to compete as an individual, but moved into the five-player lineup just an hour before the event. Saum responded with her best collegiate tournament. Saum tied for third place overall with scores of 76, 76 and 70 for a 222. Her 2-under-par 70 topped her previous best collegiate round by five shots.
Saum helped Northern Arizona to a third-place finish in the 21-team tournament, which was played Feb. 23-25 at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz. Northern Arizona shot rounds of 301, 311 and 298 for a 910, 15 shots behind winner UC Riverside.
This is Saum’s first career Golfer of the Week award.
