Eastern Washington’s Drew Brandon has been selected as the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week after leading his team to one of the biggest regular-season wins in league history.
Brandon, a 6-foot-4, senior guard from Corona, Calif, scored a career-high 27 points with eight rebounds, five steals and four assists in the Eagles’ 88-86 upset of perennial national power Indiana in Bloomington on Monday night. Brandon made 10-of-16 shots from the floor, and was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
It was the first ever win over a Big Ten team for Eastern Washington. It was the first time a Big Sky team had knocked off a Big Ten team since 2006. It is also believed to be the first time a Big Sky team has ever won a true road game against a Big Ten team. Indiana entered the game undefeated, receiving votes in both major polls, and riding a 43-game home winning streak against non-conference teams.
Brandon finished the week averaging 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. Eastern Washington fell to No. 22 SMU 77-68 last Saturday.
