Caitlin Plese, a junior goalkeeper from Enumclaw, Wash., kept Portland State alive in their 1-0, overtime win over Oregon on Friday.  Plese made a critical save on a penalty kick near the end of regulation.

With the Ducks and Vikings tied at 0-0 in the 89th minute, Plese saved a penalty kick from Oregon’s Lilly Archer, keeping the match scoreless and allowing the Vikings to win the match in overtime.

The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Vikings against Oregon, and gave the Vikings their first win over the Ducks since 2004. The Vikings also snapped an eight-match losing streak to Pac-12 opponents with the win, and earned their first win over a Pac-12 school since 2009.

Plese, the reigning Big Sky co-Goalkeeper of the Year, made five saves overall in the match, counting the save on the PK. Additionally, Plese earned her second shutout in the Vikings’ past three matches in the win, giving her 13 shutouts in her PSU career and moving her into sole possession of second place all-time at Portland State. Plese has also now allowed only one goal in her last 300 minutes of playing time, and has made 14 combined saves in her last two matches.
