Nathalie Schwery, a senior goalkeeper from Schuepfheim, Switzerland, stood out between the sticks Friday night to help Eastern Washington to its second consecutive shutout and a 4-0 win over regional rival and conference opponent Idaho.
Schwery was a dominant force in goal throughout the match, orchestrating the Eagles’ defense while coming up with big save after big save. Schwery came up with six key stops that prevented the Vandals from gaining any confidence going forward. She faced 11 total shots and had a 1.000 save percentage. EWU had not recorded two straight shutouts since 2009, prior to Schwery’s arrival in Cheney.
