Portland State’s Kyle Richardson has been selected as the final Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for the 2013-14 season.
Richardson, a 6-foot-7, senior forward from Lakewood, Calif., averaged 20.5 points, and 11 rebounds, and two blocks per game as the Vikings earned home wins over league-leading Weber State and Idaho State to secure a spot in upcoming Big Sky Championship. Richardson shot .714 percent from the floor in the two games.
Richardson netted 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal in a 66-59 upset of Weber State on Thursday. He made 6-of-9 shots from the floor, and was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
Richardson scored a career-high 28 points and tied his career-high with 14 rebounds to go along with two blocks and an assist in the Vikings’ 78-74 overtime win over Idaho State. Richardson made 14-of-19 shots from the floor. He tied the game with 13 seconds left in regulation on a dunk. In the overtime, he scored eight points with seven rebounds.
Portland State secured the No. 5 seed in the Big Sky Championship with the two victories. The Vikings did not make the postseason tournament in 2013.
This is the first Player of the Week honor for Richardson.
